Candidate Biographies

2008 ERAHC’s Candidates for Board of Directors Bio’s

PAM COHEN:

I have been throwing a leg over a horse for 45 years.  I grew up in a small town southwest of Boston, MA.  After high school I worked as an apprentice for a Thoroughbred Training-Rehab-Breeding center.  The horsemanship skills I learned there were instrumental in my acquiring my British Horse Society Intermediate Certificate.  I have ridden Field Hunters, Show Hunters, Eventers, and Dressage horses.  I was fortunate to have studied with Michael Poulin, Denny Emerson, Geroges Malleroni, Helene Asmis and Matt Mclaughin.  I also have attended clinics with George Morris, Jimmy Wofford, Dominique Barbier, Bento Castelhano, Harry Whitney, and Bettine Drummond.  I passionately support the Iberian horse.  They are the most intelligent, sensitive, and expressive horses that I have ever ridden.  I want to see our club thrive as it promotes these special horses and the folks who have come to love them.  Please know that when you are voting for me, that it also includes Quinones.  He truly does have a lot to say about how he would like things to become.

NICHOLE CHARLTON:

I have spent my entire life working with or for the well being of horses.  In conjunction with my day job, I have my own business where I am a Certified Equine Sports Therapist.  I started riding at a very early age, showing Hunters and later Jumpers through out New England.  In my late teens, I was introduced to Classical Dressage.  This is where I had my first introduction to the Iberian Horse.  I always knew that one day I would have one for my own!  I came to my first ERAHC show as a groom for one of the founding members more that thirteen years ago, and have continued to come through out the years as either a groom or a supporter, and lately a competitor.  It was not until 3 yrs ago that I was fortunate to purchase my first Lusitano colt, I have since purchased a Lusitano mare that I have high hopes for.  In the last two years I have taken an active roll in working for the club gaining sponsorship and donations and this year I chair this committee.  It takes many dedicated individuals to make the club what it is currently and keep the high standard that was put into place by it’s founders, I look forward to the opportunity to serve the club as a Director at Large should I be elected into this position.

 SARAH VOGELEY:

I reside in central Virginia, and serve as a volunteer with the local Sheriff’s mounted Search & Rescue unit, as well as working with Blue Ridge Equine Clinic providing supportive care for sick foals admitted in their intensive care unit.  I enjoy dressage, pleasure trail, and cross-country riding, in addition to competitive trail rides and hunter paces across Central Virginia.  For the last several years, I have actively participated with ERAHC in a variety of capacities.  In addition to serving on the Board of Directors, I have also served at the ERAHC Classic show as Barn Manager for two years, Ring Steward for 2006-2008, and I have volunteered and competed at the annual breed show over the last ten years.  My enthusiasm for our club’s mission is very strong, and I have enjoyed every year that I have been privileged to be a part of such a great group of people who share a common bond and connection with the Iberian horse.

SHELBY HUME:

I hope to continue serving ERAHC in order to help promote the club and the breed I love so much.  I have served one ERAHC Board term as By Laws director and I feel my diverse horsemanship and association background will continue to be a good fit for ERAHC.

My husband and I have a small farm in Kentucky and I teach Natural Horsemanship principals and lessons to area people (also emphasizing dressage and obstacles).  We breed a small number of Lusitanos and I also continue learning about my passion for the Working Equitation and Classical Dressage.

My experiences in the competition ring such as: USDF, NRHA, Ranch Horse shows, and IALHA shows helped me recognize that people enjoy their horse in many ways.  I previously taught 9 years in a collegiate equine program and continue to develop my horsemanship during clinics, studies each winter in Florida and in competition.  Trips to Portugal and Mexico give me perspective and experience of the Iberian horses, their training, and competition in their native countries.  I also previously carried a NRHA (National Reining Horse Association) International judge’s card and served on a variety of horse association boards.

I would like to continue serving ERAHC and refining its mission on offering people with the full and half Iberian horse a venue for knowledge (clinics etc.), competition , and camaraderie.

ROSALIE WENCKOSKI:

I have been an ERAHC member for only a few years.  I began competing only 3 years ago and I have been having so much fun with my wonderful horse and the people I have met and who help me with my endeavors.  For the last 3 years I have been one of the scorers for the Open Dressage show, and love helping out when ever I can.

I have been involved soliciting candidates for the last two years as ERAHC’s Nominations committee chairperson.   I would love to continue to help with the club’s endeavors to provide quality shows, clinics, and participate when ever the calling comes.
