I do not remember a time when andalusians were not part of my life. My aunt had been breeding andalusians long before I was born and I learned how to ride in part on her gentle stallion Recluta II. My first horse of my own was Del-More's Recluta III ("Rex") who was bred by my aunt and given to me and my sister when I was six years old. I showed in 4-H and pony club when I was first starting out and was regularly seen running barrels on Saturday and showing in low level dressage on Sunday. I especially loved speed games as a child and Rex always took care of me. I went to my first breed show in 1988 at the age of 10. The show was for andalusians and Lippizaners and it was the first time I had seen so many Iberians. I had always loved Rex as an individual, but that is the first time I remember falling in love with the breed!
I was able to train with some wonderful Grand-Prix riders throughout grade and high school and fell in love with the art of dressage. I was schooling Fourth Level Dressage on my andalusian gelding prior to his death in 1997. I evented my percheron TB cross in college to training level but my heart was always with the Iberian and the art of classical training. In 1999 Rex's full sister was born, and with her was the start of JC Andalusians, my farm which has rapidly grown over the last several years. I currently own 5 Purebred mares (1 leased), 2 purebred stallions, 2 purebred geldings and a half-bred. I also have several training and sale horses and the barn is always full of the beautiful horses I have loved since childhood.
I currently breed and train full time and I have a special place in my heart for the foals. I love working with the babies and Springtime is my favorite time of year because of it. I have been a member of ERAHC since I moved to Virginia in 1998 and have participated in the last 6 annual shows. I am excited to be on the board of this fantastic club and I look forward to watching us grow.
